Gala Weekend 2007

Friday evening 15th June
"Beach Party" Disco & Buffet
7.30pm to 11.00pm.

On Friday evening there was a disco with a "Beach Party" theme. The marquee was decorated with a beach theme and guests were asked to enter into the spirit and dress appropriately! This was a ticketed event and was a sell out.

Saturday 16th June
Gala Extravaganza
12noon - 8.00pm

The events on Saturday started at 12 noon when this year's Gala Queen, Zoe and Gala King, Dale and attendants Mhairi and Ryan officially opened the Gala.

Attractions and highlights of the day included:

• Crowning of Gala Queen & Gala King.
• Tuck shop.
• Burger & hot dog stall.
• Chocolate mallows & kids games - Beaver Scouts (85th Renfrew & Inverclyde / 1st Wemyss Bay).
• Guides tearoom with home baking.
• Children's carousel.
• Bouncy Castle.
• Soccer Circus by Ardgowan Football Development and the Bible Club.
• Giant Bouncy Slide.
• Laser Quest.
• Cocunut Shy - Guides.
• Animal man.
• Sponge Toss - Bible Club and Youth Group.
• Ice cream van.
• AFD Football Tournament. 4 teams took part in 15 minute games for the AFD quaich. The AFD Old Crocks held off a strong AFD Parents team drawing 1-1 and winning on penalties in the first game. A Wemyss Bay Youth team took on the other AFD Parents team which won convincingly 3-0. The two losers teams played and the youths were narrowly beaten 1-0. The AFD Old Crocks played the 2nd parents team in the final which saw the Old Crocks win 1-0 and take the quaich for the 6th year running. Thanks to all who took part. (From AFD web site.)

For a change this year, Gala Day closed at the earlier time of 8pm;. There was no an earlier break and entertainment continued straight through to the end.

Sunday 17th June
Ardgowan FD Gala Day
11.15am-3.00pm

Hundreds of parents and friends of AFD kids turned up on a sun kissed Gala day to see the kids perform their skills and be presented with their trophies by Grade One referees Ian Brines and Des Roach. This year we are starting a new endeavour by being the first club to join Sporting Masters. P6 & P7 kids will be involved in getting to know the 17 rules of the game and parents will also be involved to see that there kids dietary needs and fitness and closly monitored with a booklet showing training routines.The parents will also learn with the kids that we their will be a zero tolerance in abuse on and off the park.
