Christmas Shopping Evening at Gourock High School. Tickets cost £2 and will include a glass of wine & nibbles. There will be a variety of stalls with great bargains in designer handbags, toiletries, jewellery, crafts, cards, Christmas themed gifts & decorations, confectionery, candles, toys, childrens gifts, textiles, cosmetics and more. We're hoping it will be a great opportunity for a relaxed evening of Christmas shopping while raising money for our School (with some improved parking this year)! Information day about how you can become a short break carer with Barnardo's. The information day will be informal and relaxed and current short break carers and professional staff will be around to answer any questions and to let visitors know about what caring for a disabled child on a short term basis is like and what it involves. Woodland Association summer walk programme The Woodland Association has set up its summer walk programme in conjunction with Scottish Natural Heritage's Local Nature Reserve Celebrations. The LNR Celebration Fortnight takes place in July and, in addition to the regular weekend walks we have scheduled a couple of midweek children's events.	July - October 2006	MORE

Skelmorlie & Wemyss Bay Cancer Research UK Local Committee Plant Sale

Saturday 11th May - 11am to 4pm
Sunday 12th May - 1pm to 4pm
Skelmorlie Scout hut

This event will take place in the Skelmorlie Scout hut on Saturday 11th (11am - 4pm) and Sunday 12th (1pm - 4pm) May. This is a joint venture between Skelmorlie & Wemyss Bay ladies to raise money for Cancer Research. All profits go directly to the Beatson Research Centre in Glasgow to fund research. The plants are of a very high standard and this will be our fourth year.

Easter Fun Day 2002

The Community Association once again organised an Easter Fun Day on Saturday, 30th March at the community centre.

The day went well and various activities were enjoyed. 17 groups took part in the Family Treasure Hunt which was won by Elaine and the Castle Wemyss Weasels. A special mention to Ryan and his pals who did very well and are determined to come back next year and win.

There were 39 entries in the Decorate an Egg Competition and the winners of the three age groups were Jennifer aged 12, Sophie aged 11 and Victor aged 3. The entries were very colourful and imaginative and every entry won a prize. There were games, competitions and races and a big thanks to everyone who helped out on the day.

Easter Fun Day 2001

The Community Association organised an Easter Fun Day on Saturday, 14th April, at the community centre.

Despite the poor weather many came along and enjoyed themselves with the races and competitions. A healthy profit of £125 was also made towards the funds of the Community Association.

Congratulations to Sian Burton and her team for all their hard work.

This was the programme for the day:

Easter fun day programme
2.00pm	Flat races in 3 age groups: under 5's, 6 - 11yrs & 12+
2.30pm	Design an Easter Bonnet and bring it along for judging at 2.30pm. 4 age groups: under 5's, 6 - 11yrs, 12 - 17yrs & 18+
3.00pm	Egg & Spoon races in 3 age groups: under 5's, 6 - 11 yrs & 12+
3.30pm	Design a miniature garden about the size of a seed tray or similar. Judging will be in 4 age groups - under 5's, 6 - 11yrs, 12 - 17yrs & 18+
4.00pm	3 legged races in 3 age groups - under 5's, 6 - 11yrs & 12+
5.00pm - 7.00pm	Under 11's disco - however we would ask that any under 5's be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available through various centre user groups. Price £1 or you can pay at the door but numbers will be limited.
7.30pm- 9.30pm	Disco for 12 - 16's. Tickets available as above.
Easter Egg Hunt
An Easter Egg Hunt will be on between 2.15pm and 4.00pm. Follow the clues and answer the questions - a prize will be awarded at 4.15pm to the team that answers most questions correctly in the shortest time. N.B. Teams must be accompanied by an adult as the clues will lead away from the centre for a short time.

Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon and there will also be a raffle and home-baking stall. If anybody would like to donate a raffle prize or offer to help supervise at one or both of the Discos please contact Sian Burton on 521134. Donations for the home-baking stall will be appreciated from 1.30pm on 14th April.

Gala Day 2000

The Gala Day made a comeback at the end of May 2000, after no Gala Day was held in 1999. The members of the community association and many others worked hard to ensure that a good day was had by all. The activities included:

Guy Fawkes night

For many years there was a bonfire night in Wemyss Bay for Guy Fawkes night. It was one of the best in the Inverclyde area, but due to various circumstances there has not been one for a number of years now.

wemyssbay.net ran an online poll to see if the support was there for bringing the event back to the village. The poll closed on the 9th November, 2001 with 50 votes cast and the results were as follows:

Bring back bonfire night in Wemyss Bay: 42 votes (84%)
Don't bring back bonfire night: 8 votes (16%)

This poll contained an additional question, which was to ask if you would be willing to help organise the event. While a clear majority would like to see bonfire night in Wemyss Bay again, only 5 people who voted said that they would be willing to help organise the event.
