Emergency meeting - Sunday March 11th 2012 at 7.30pm at Wemyss Bay Community Centre Dear All,
I am getting in touch on behalf of the Wemyss Bay Community Association who now find themselves in a familiar situation and once again looking at the possibility of cancelling the Gala and handing back the keys of the centre to Inverclyde Leisure.
This is mainly due to lack of numbers regularly attending meetings and willing to help in the run up to and during the Gala. The long list of tasks being divided between a decreasing number of stressed volunteers. This is a situation which has evolved over time due to a variety of reasons and changes in personal circumstances for everyone.
We had a meeting on Sunday 26th of February to try and drum up some interest and I am deeply saddened to say that only two new non-committee members came along. And even one of those two is the parent of a current committee member.
I am hoping that the reason people didn't come along is that they were unaware of the meeting. The alternative puts us in a different position. Having said that, details were in the last issue of the Village News and also in a newsletter that went out through the local primary school.
So, we have decided to have one last try with a more actively publicised meeting on Sunday, March 11th at the Community Centre at 7.30pm. We will be asking people to help in whatever capacity they are able to or would like to.
In addition we are asking every user group to choose a representative to regularly attend the monthly meetings and also to gather reserve support from their own members when needed at various times, primarily in the run up to and during the Gala. Meetings will be scheduled to a time, day and location that suits the majority.
Therefore, I wanted to let you know at the earliest possible opportunity that unless we get more volunteers there may be no Gala this year. I know we have been here before but this is genuinely the closest we have come to a decision like this.
In addition, forgoing the management of the centre would mean changes for every user group and result in less flexibility, availability and possible increases in fees and charges for everyone.
I am hoping you can help.
Kind regards, Bobbie McCabe On behalf of Wemyss Bay Community Association
