Wemyss Bay is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Wemyss Bay Railway line on Saturday 16th May

150th anniversary of the Wemyss Bay Railway Line1865 – 2015 : 150 years since the Greenock and Wemyss Bay Railway officially opened their line to Glasgow to Wemyss Bay line, as a branch extension from Port Glasgow.

Something to celebrate, which is just what we plan to do on Saturday, 16th May, 2015.

Caledonian MacBrayne plan to dress overall one of their regular Rothesay ferries for that day, and she will have on board an exhibition of models of Clyde paddle steamers, and historic photos of the Clyde ferries, all lent by members of several groups of steamer enthusiasts, including the Clyde River Steamer Club, the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and the Scottish Maritime Museum. The current plan is to have this exhibition on the ferry which departs from Wemyss Bay at 11.00 a.m.

In the Station Gallery we shall have an exhibition of railway paintings by Dugald Cameron, who has produced specially for the occasion paintings of the 1865 station and pier, which will be reproduced for sale as cards. There will also be paintings of early Caledonian Railway Company locomotives, also available as a commemorative set of postcards for this special anniversary.

On the Saturday morning only from 10am to 12noon, models of Caledonian Railway trains will be on view.
